UP biochemist wins  L’Oreal-Unesco Science Award

     

Prof. Lourdes Jansuy Cruz,  the first Filipina and Asean to win the 2010 L’Oreal-Unesco For Women in Science Award, was recently awarded in Paris for her efforts in discovering Conotoxins from marine snails used as alternative to morphine.more

 
     
 
Man and the Biosphere
     

The UNESCO Philippines National Commission participated in the Twentieth Session of the International Coordinating Council (ICC) of the Programme on the Man and the Biosphere (MAB) and  the Third World Congress of Biosphere Reserves  held in Madrid, Spain. UNACOM was represented by  UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme Philippine Representative Dr. Virginia S. Cariño.

Labor Migration study results valuable to public

 
     

How do families live without family members who work overseas? Who should have access to this kind of information?

The  results of  the Study on Migration and the Family conducted by the Ateneo de Manila University were presented and discussed in a Policy Workshop held at the Ateneo Social Science Conference Rooms on December 15, 2008. Participants included 48 representatives of government agencies, non-government organizations, private corporations, and academic institutions who deal with labor and migration. more

 
       
 
Confab reviews energy direction
 
   
The 30th Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) discussed scientific issues and initiatives in energy technology as it undertook an assessment of present and future direction. With the theme Energy Security and Sustainability: Assessing the Present and Foreseeing the Future, the ASM gathered all stakeholders in a roundtable discussion and drafted a resolution on the action plans with focus on research and development. more
