Lyceum UNESCO Club Officially Accredited

On November 17, 2010, the Lyceum UNESCO Club was officially accredited by the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (NatCom). The LUC aims to provide the students of the College of International Relations of the Lyceum of the Philippines University with projects and activities that will further enhance their awareness and knowledge on domestic and international issues concerning education, science and culture for them to be better equipped in the careers they will pursue.

The Club has one hundred twenty members led by its Director-General, Kristine Joyce Laroco. It has organized activities such as Quiz Bees, heritage sites appreciation tours, dissemination of UNESCO programs and activities and community outreach. LUC will further unveil an Exhibition of World Heritage Sites on November 30 at the Mabini Hall of the Lyceum of the Philippines University.

Accredited UNESCO Clubs are expected to build sustainable bridges within civil society, seek to disseminate UNESCO ideals and undertake activities directly inspired by those of the Organization, broaden cultural horizons and provide an invaluable service to the UNESCO NatCom in supplementing public information activities.

The NatCom has issued new guidelines for accreditation of UNESCO Clubs. Organizations wishing to be accredited must fill-up an application form and submit it together with the required supporting documents. For a copy of the application form and the guidelines, please contact the NatCom at 834 4843 or 834 3447 or you may inquire via email at unescophilippines@yahoo.com.ph. It is recommended that the “Practical Guide for UNESCO Clubs” be consulted before proceeding with the accreditation process.
