The SHS Committee has recently approved the project “Academic Vocabulary Across 10 Levels of Basic Education” which aims to serve as key words for vocabulary development in English and Filipino in all subject areas and for all grade levels in Basic Education. This project will be implemented in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd)-Region IV-A CALABARZON, led by Regional Director Dr. Paraluman R. Giron.            

The project is premised on the importance of academic background knowledge, which consists of segments of information comprised of words and phrases associated with them. According to the DepEd Regional Office, previous studies have revealed that there is a significant relationship between knowledge of academic information and achievement later in life. The expected academic vocabulary will offer an axis of reference when strategizing how to teach high-order thinking in all subject areas in basic education.
