A regional high-level meeting on the teaching of philosophy in Asia and the Pacific was held on May 25-26, 2009 at the SEAMEO-INNOTECH in Quezon City, Philippines.  The event was organized by UNESCO in cooperation with the Philippine Department of Education, the Office of the Philippine Presidential Assistant for Education, and the Philippine National Commission for UNESCO. more

 
     
 
Ministerial Meeting on Teaching Philosophy in the Asia Pacific Region to be held in Manila on 25-26 May 2009
     
In 2006, UNESCO published an intersectoral strategy for Philosophy that affirmed the critical role of Philosophy in grounding UNESCO’s aspirations for peace on the basis of the intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind. It then defined the role of Philosophy in terms of developing the intellectual tools to analyse and understand key concepts such as justice, dignity and freedom, by building capacities for independent thought and judgment, by enhancing the critical skills to understand and question the world’s challenges, and by fostering reflection on values and principles, philosophy is a “school of freedom.” more

Children are the world’s valuable resource. In its commitment to protect and nurture children’s future, the UNESCO National Commission in the Philippines celebrated  UNESCO’s World Philosophy Day 2008 and the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through a conference on Power and Rights on November 20, 2008.
