COMMITTEE NEWS

NCMS initial activities for the Calauit Safari Park Project

NCMS Chair Dr. Miguel D. Fortes requested the Committee Secretariat during its 8th regular session to coordinate the preliminary arrangements of the NCMS assessment activities for the Calauit Safari Park Project.  The Committee will also inform the local government officials as well as Mr. Mel Velarde, President, UNESCO-MAB Phils. Inc., about this activity.

While the main thrust of Calauit is the Safari Park, it was noted that no one has touched its marine environment (marine eco-system).  The Committee sees the need to focus in this particular area as an Outreach Marine Project (OMP) in Calauit with a slight variation from its usual OMPs.  The Committee’s main objective in Calauit is an assessment of what could enhance the Park in terms of marine science.   Dr. Fortes noted that NCMS could work closely with the Tagbanuas and Provincial Government of Palawan because they are the most knowledgeable on this matter.

The initial activities in Calauit were scheduled on 02-06 November 2010.
