The identification of an ideal site as a Biosphere Reserve in this country is nationally recognized with pride most especially for having been declared and approved by the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme.
 
Over the past two years, articulate strides have been made to pursue activities for the promotion of marine services in this country.
 
Emerging as one of the primary natural resources which have to be protected and conserve with utmost concern especially in coastal and marine areas is in the field of marine sciences which the National Committee on Marine Sciences of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines is mandated to promote.

The marine and coastal environment of the Philippines is symbolic as the Pearl of the Orient with all its tropical splendor and rich natural resources which have intimate influence on the lives of the people.
 
The conducting of the outreach marine programme has reached several distant places, the latest of which are located in central western Luzon and in the northernmost part of this country.
 
The National Committee on Marine Sciences of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines has as its major concern the promotion of marine sciences in this country.
