Accomplishments          

 
National Committee on Marine Sciences (NCMS) Major Accomplishments 
 
 
1. Coordinated and partially funded the oceanographic surveys to the Kalayaan Group of Islands conducted in 1988 & 1989.
 
 
2. Funded research and study projects on various fields of oceanography ( i.e. physical, biological, chemical,etc.)
 
 
3. Spearheaded the conduct of several training courses, scientific symposia, seminars & workshops, meetings and conferences (local, regional and international) in oceanography as a function of the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM)
 
 
4. Partially sponsored the scholarship of a graduate student in biological oceanography.
 
 
5. Published several technical and scientific reports on Philippine Marine Sciences profile, annual and biennial projects and activities of the Committee.
 
 
6. Participated as members of the Philippine Delegation in the IOC Assembly Sessions biennially held at the UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, France.
 
 
7. Conducted Outreach Marine Programme in thirteen (13) coastal areas of the Philippine archipelago.
 
 
8. Prepared and completed the Philippine Marine Science  Master Plan (PMSMP).
 
 
9. Publication of the First and Second Editions of NCMS book.
 
 
10. Publication of the First Edition of “Sourcebook: Philippine Marine Environment”.
 
 
11. Participated in the Eight Pacific River Fisheries Conference held at Hanoi, Vietnam on 22-24 March, 2006.
 
 
12. Participated in the Leadership Development for Directors of Marine Institute in the Western Pacific Region Workshop held at Bangkok, Thailand on 28 February to 3 March 2007.
 
 
13. Participated in the WESTPAC/IOC Consultative Meeting held Hangzhou, China on 17 to 18 May 2007.
 
 
14. Participated in the Environment Audit of two Biosphere Reserves (Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro and Palawan Province) of the Philippine  archipelago in June 2007.
