On the occasion of the celebration of World Philosophy Day and the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, The Social and Human Sciences Committee of the UNESCO National Commission, in cooperation with the Ateneo Human Rights Center’s Children’s Desk and the Ateneo Philosophy Department organized a conference on “Power and Rights,” with special attention on the Rights of Children, held at the Ateneo de Manila University’s Social Development Complex Auditorium last November 20, 2008. more

Karunungan festival 1
   
The first Karunungan Festival, held at Ateneo de Manila University last July 7-8, 2007, celebrated the educational aspirations of our people for the 21st Century. Our post-conference evaluation showed that the most well received presentations were the success stories of the least endowed places like Payatas, Quezon City, Barbaza, Antique, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental, and Kiangan, Ifugao where people defied the odds stacked against them and even surpassed our expectations by dramatically improving the performance ratings of their students. more
     
 
Conference SyNthesis Karunungan Festival 2
   
 
The Second Karunungan Festival held at OB Montessori Center in Greenhills, San Juan, Metro Manila celebrated the teaching of social studies for the 21st Century on the occasion of the 112th anniversary of our National Heroes Day last August 29-30, 2008 by advancing the cause of the “Schools of the People”, the theme of the First Karunungan Festival last year.
