For the last ten years, the UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme (WHE) has been implementing activities, programs and competitions in its effort to help children learn about World Heritage Sites, its Challenges, as well as encourage them to craft their own contribution to help conserve heritage. An approach to the World Heritage Education is the use of special cartoons and animated short films, through a cartoon character, Patrimonito, who mobilizes young people to participate actively in World Heritage preservation. more |

29 July 2009, Paris -- The Philippine Permanent Delegation to UNESCO reported that the Philippine Madrigal Singers were awarded as UNESCO Artists for Peace by UNESCO Director-General Koichiro Matsuura in a ceremony held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 27 July.

Sanctuaries of Endemism in Mindanao. The nomination kicks off the UNESCO Philippines campaign for the two national parks’ inscription in the UNESCO World Heritage List. more

NatCom, Ateneo Zamboanga build bridges for peace |

A major step for peace, a significant breakthrough for healing.
A two-day interfaith assembly was the event that started efforts at peace building and healing when 20 wives of former Moro National Liberation Front combatants, 17 loved ones of the Armed Forces of the Philippines members and 19 indigenous peoples group called Subanen women with their clan leader gathered to confront the pains of conflict no one wanted to go through. It proved that indeed, races and ethnic groups can transcend faith and culture to build bridges for peace. more |
