Participants included a multisectoral group from government, business and the academe in the Philippines and government representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
The sub-regional forum is convened by the UNESCO Information for All Program (IFAP) Philippines National Committee in cooperation with the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM) Communication Committee, and Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (AIJC).
The UNESCO Information for All Program (IFAP) is an intergovernmental program established to harness the opportunities of the information age in creating equitable societies. Specific priority areas are information for development, information literacy, multilingualism, the digital divide, information ethics, preservation of information, and information accessibility.
Angelo Timoteo Diaz de Rivera, IFAP Philippines chairperson, said the forum pursues the goal of universal access to the Internet as articulated in the two previous World Summits on the Information Society (WSIS) convened by the United Nations.
Boyan Radoyov of UNESCO Paris presented the IFAP Strategic Plan. Outputs of the forum included policy options and national and sub-regional action programs and projects.
