Mission Statement

As a specialized agency of the United Nations, UNESCO (and consequently, NatCom) contributes to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information.

 
 

Our Principles and Values

UNESCO provides a platform where global challenges for humanity can be addressed on the basis of equality among Member States. Founded on the principles of universality, diversity and dignity, UNESCO’s actions continue to be guided and shaped by a set of commonly shared values that include justice, solidarity, tolerance, sharing, equity, respect for human rights, including women’s rights, and cultural diversity, pluralism and democratic principles. .

 
 

Who we are

As one of the 195 National Commissions worldwide, we are the national cooperating agency between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and UNESCO which fosters international cooperation with other Member States (of the UNESCO National Commissions) to facilitate services in the areas of Education, Science and Technology, Culture, Social and Human Sciences, and Communication.

 
 

What we do

We associate the work of the Philippine Government and Non-Government Organizations with the work of UNESCO. We pursue UNESCO’s five established functions: (i) laboratory of ideas, (ii) standard-setter, (iii) clearing house, (iv) capacity builder in Member States in UNESCO’s fields of competence, (v) catalyst for international cooperation.

 
 

How we do it

We commit and adhere to the UNESCO 2008-2013 Medium-Term Strategy of
the strategic vision and programmatic framework for UNESCO’s action over the next six years in all its domains at the global, regional and country levels on the following goals:

   
Attaining quality education for all and lifelong learning;
   

Mobilizing scientific knowledge and policy for sustainable development;

   

Addressing emerging social and ethical challenges;

   
Promoting cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue and a culture of peace;
